PR, events and strategy
for the mining industry

Strategic Mining Communications isn’t a generalist firm – we live and breathe industry.
With decades of experience in mining, we speak the language, have a powerful network, and understand the industry-specific ins and outs that will save you time and money.

WHY SMC?

Very few consulting or PR firms know your world the way we do, or can connect you the way we can. Run by leaders in the industry, SMC can connect you to the people that matter, consult on your unique business or project, and help you communicate with intentionality and strategy.

SMC was born when Jodie Currie, Director and founder of the Bowen Basin Mining Club, and Sarah-Joy Pierce, a communications professional specialising in Queensland’s resources sector, realised there was no specialist firm to help regional Queensland businesses connect with mining industry stakeholders – or to provide advice to top-tier firms on communicating with suppliers and stakeholders.

After working on numerous successful projects together, Jodie and Sarah established SMC. We are an innovative consultancy with capital city presence and regional expertise, based between Brisbane and Rockhampton (but available to travel throughout Queensland and Australia as needed), and have maximum flexibility to help our clients achieve their goals and get their businesses in front of the people that matter most.

Easily recognisable as one of the Bowen Basin’s industry thought leaders, Jodie is the Director and founder of the Bowen Basin Mining Club, as well as a co-founder of Strategic Mining Communications.

Jodie started the Bowen Basin Mining Club in 2010 after seeing a need for mining industry suppliers to work together, in the good times and when things are tough. By bringing high-profile speakers to bi-monthly networking events in regional communities, Jodie has facilitated countless business partnerships and helped to strengthen businesses across the Bowen Basin.

For her pioneering approach to uniting the sector, Jodie won the 2016 Queensland Regional Achievement and Community Awards Innovation and Leadership award, as well as being named a finalist in the 2016 Women in Industry Awards.

Jodie’s work with SMC builds on the business connections and skills she has honed over years spent discussing the intricacies of the Queensland mining sector with key proponents, suppliers and contractors.
